The 140-year history of our family business tells a story of the courage to embrace change and a lasting connection to our roots. What began as a simple forge has grown into an international company specialising in frameless sliding windows.
In 1886, master blacksmith Christian Berger and his wife Rosa founded their business in Langnau in the Emmental. Shoeing horses, repairing wagon wheels and carrying out a variety of forging tasks were part of everyday life.
The next two generations continued the blacksmith’s craft, passing on their knowledge and skills. As mechanisation progressed, the forge evolved into a metalworking workshop and later a metal construction company.
This willingness to respond to new requirements remains with us today. So does our belief that quality begins with people: with their knowledge, their care and the standards they set for their own work.
Our home in Langnau connects these origins with the present. Here, 140 years on, we continue to develop and manufacture our products, working together to think every solution through to the smallest detail.
In 1989, brothers Kurt and Hansrudolf Berger, both of whom had also trained as farriers and vehicle smiths, took over the business. Under the fourth generation, the sole proprietorship became Berger Metallbau AG. By focusing on metal, glass and steel, they laid the foundations for a specialisation in demanding architectural glazing.
A passion for pared-back design led to the creation of the swissFineLine frameless sliding window. Since 2017, the company has also borne this name.
Today, swissFineLine stands for expansive glass surfaces, slender design and a seamless connection between indoors and outdoors. Our ambition is to give architecture creative freedom and develop technical solutions that fit naturally into everyday life.
This takes many skills working in harmony: attentive consultation, forward-thinking planning, and manufacturing and installation that deliver precision down to the smallest detail. Through this collective effort, our customers experience the value of our expertise first-hand.

Thinking long term is an integral part of who we are as a family business. Through the ongoing succession process, we are laying the foundations for swissFineLine to thrive for generations to come.
The appointment of Dominique Berger and Céline Bieri to the Board of Directors marks another important milestone in this process. As daughters of owner Kurt Berger, they now represent the fifth generation and, together with their father, form the body responsible for swissFineLine’s strategic direction.
At the same time, Dominique Berger and Aaron Berger are joining our executive management team. Together with Céline Bieri, Bernhard Bieri and Kurt Berger, they are taking responsibility for the continued development of swissFineLine, with respect for what our predecessors have built and the courage to move the company forward with fresh perspectives.
For our customers, partners and employees, this means continuity and personal responsibility. Behind swissFineLine stands a family with a deep commitment to the company and an active role in shaping its future. In this way, 140 years of experience become the foundation for what lies ahead.
